The Belgian far-right party "Vlaams belang" announced today that it is joining the prospective new group in the European Parliament "Patriots for Europe" recently created by Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, Czech Prime Minister Andrej Babis and Austrian far-right leader Herbert Kickel.
With this total, MEPs from seven EU countries are included in the group, which is the number needed to establish a new political force in the EP, noted Belgian media quoted by BNR.
"Vlams belang" became the winner of the elections for MEPs in Belgium at the beginning of June. The party has been repeatedly accused of ties to Russian and Chinese interests, coming second in the federal elections a month ago and is not expected to be in the next Belgian government, BTA notes.
Far-right parties from Hungary, Austria, Portugal, the Netherlands, the Czech Republic and Spain will also participate in the future group in the EP. A decision is awaited whether the French "National Assembly" of Jordan Bardela and Marine Le Pen will be included in the future European political formation.
