In the United Kingdom, the Conservative Party, which lost the general election, began to form a shadow government, in which, however, the current Minister of Foreign Affairs, David Cameron, will remain, BNR reported.

Lord Cameron has resigned from Rishi Sunak's front bench and will now be replaced by Andrew Mitchell. Also, despite retaining his seat in last week's election, Richard Holden has stepped down as Tory party leader. In his resignation letter, Holden said a "thorough review of the general election campaign" was needed, but it would be "best done with a fresh set of eyes to ensure the clearest look".

A total of 175 Conservative MPs lost their seats in more than Labour's landslide victory, including 11 ministers, leaving it with just 121 representatives in the House of Commons, compared to Labour's 412. The pogrom of the election made Sunak the leader of the opposition and he will have to fill quite a few seats on the front bench. With the former prime minister confirming he will step down as party leader when the process to choose a successor begins, it is unclear how long this shadow cabinet will last.
