By making its weapons available, Serbia is helping Ukraine to protect its territorial integrity, and Washington welcomes that, said US Assistant Secretary of State for European and Eurasian Affairs James O'Brien, announced the Serbian edition of the regional television En1, quoted by BTA.
When asked by television in Washington, ahead of the NATO summit, O‘Brian said that “cooperation and support for Ukraine is vital because Ukraine defends the basic principle of territorial integrity”.
The Ukrinform agency reported last month, citing the Financial Times, that Serbia is increasing the sale of ammunition to the West, which then enters Ukraine through third countries. The amount of ammunition that Kyiv received from Belgrade is worth approximately 800 million euros, Ukrinform reported.
O‘Brian also mentioned the visit of Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Alexander Grushko to Belgrade last week.
„We have seen reports that Russia's deputy foreign minister has visited Belgrade. We are here and we are building a partnership with Serbia and the countries in the region, which belongs to Europe and is part of Europe. It seems to me that the Russians have some difficulty accepting that this is the future,”, the American diplomat pointed out.
Today begins the NATO summit in Washington, which will mark the 75th anniversary of the creation of the alliance. Among the main topics of the meeting will be the war in Ukraine. Serbia will be represented at the meeting by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Marko Djuric.
