Marine Le Pen: Only Emmanuel Macron to blame for political impasse - 1

France's Left Alliance and President Emmanuel Macron's centrist bloc are trying to form a government, while far-right leader Marine Le Pen today said Macron had created a "swamp" and put the blame for the political impasse entirely on him, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.

Sunday's unexpected result of France's snap election, in which the left-wing "New Popular Front" surprisingly won, albeit without an absolute majority, plunging France into uncertainty with no clear path to a stable government.

Any government, whether left-wing, centrist or a cabinet based on a broader coalition, can quickly fall victim to a possible vote of no confidence by the opposition if it does not secure enough solid support.

"Today we are in a quagmire, because no one can understand where the prime minister will come from and what policy will be pursued for the country,", the leader of the extreme right Le Pen told journalists, arriving at the parliament.

Macron, whose term ends in 2027, called the general election after his party was routed by the far right in last month's EU elections. He had stated that this would clarify the situation, but it did not happen.

"At the very least, it is not a great success for Emmanuel Macron,", noted Le Pen sarcastically.

Amid these warnings, rating agencies, financial markets, the European Commission and France's eurozone partners are closely monitoring whether the impasse can be broken, Reuters notes.
