French President Emmanuel Macron today called on the country's traditional political forces to form a coalition with a “hard“ majority after Sunday's election, which led to a fragmented parliament, AFP reported. He made his appeal in a letter published in several regional newspapers, quoted by BTA.

In his letter, Macron, who broke his silence for the first time since the parliamentary elections, wrote that "nobody won".

He appealed to "all political forces that identify with republican institutions, the rule of law, parliamentarism, European orientation and the defense of French independence, to engage in a sincere and loyal dialogue to build a solid majority, necessarily pluralistic , for the country".

In his call for a coalition, Macron used the term "Republican Bloc", which suggests that it should include the main parties, not the extreme right and hard left, Reuters notes. The President has indicated that he will choose a Prime Minister at the end of this process.

The parliamentary elections, marked by the historic breakthrough of the extreme right in the first round, eventually led to a meeting of three political currents, in which the left came out on top, but without an absolute majority (190-195 seats), followed by the center-right presidential camp (about 160 seats) and the extreme right (143 seats).
