Hamas proposes independent rule of Gaza and West Bank after war - 1

„Hamas“ proposed after war Gaza Strip and West Bank coast to be governed by an independent Palestinian government, composed of individuals who do not belong to any party, reported France Press, referring to a statement by Hossam Badran, a member of the political bureau of the Palestinian Islamist movement, quoted by BTA /p>

„We have proposed a supra-party government with national competences to rule Gaza and the West Bank after the war,”, Badran said in the statement in connection with the indirect talks taking place between Israel and “Hamas” with the mediation of Qatar, Egypt and the US in order to cease fire in Gaza and release the hostages held there.

„The governance of Gaza after the war is an internal Palestinian matter in which there should be no outside interference, and we will not discuss (post-war) Gaza with any foreign country,” he added.

However, one of the leaders of “Hamas“ told AFP that the proposal for this supra-party government was presented “together with the mediators“.

This government will have to manage “the affairs of the Gaza Strip and the West Bank in the first post-war phase“ and "to prepare the ground for general elections,", Badran explained.

The war broke out on October 7 after “Hamas“ launched an unprecedented attack on Israeli territory that killed 1,195 people, most of them civilians. Of the 251 kidnapped people, 116 are still hostages in Gaza, with 42 of them declared dead by the army, AFP reminded.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu vowed to destroy “Hamas” in response to the attack, and the military campaign against the Gaza Strip since October 7 has devastated the small coastal territory. The offensive has killed at least 38,345 people, most of them civilians, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health.

Current talks, which the international community hopes will lead to an end to the war, are taking place in Doha and Cairo.
