More than 10 million Sudanese, representing 20% of the population, have been driven from their homes since the start of the war there, the International Organization for Migration (IOM) said, as quoted by Reuters.
The war that broke out in April 2023 has led to food insecurity and the need for humanitarian aid for half of Sudan's population. More than 2.2 million people have fled to other countries since the beginning of the conflict, while almost 7.8 million have found refuge in the country, reports News.bg.
Fighting between the army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Force, which erupted in the capital Khartoum last year, quickly spread to Darfur in the west.
According to the WHO, hunger, not violence, is the main reason why Sudanese are fleeing the country.
