Donald Trump said last night in an interview with the American television "Fox News" that no one warned him about a possible "problem" on the eve of the former president's rally in the state of Pennsylvania last week, when a potential assassin shot him in the ear, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
"No one mentioned it, no one said there was a problem. I would wait 15 minutes, they could say: let's wait 15 minutes, 20 minutes, 5 minutes or something. Nobody said anything," Trump said in the interview.
"I think it was a mistake," he said, adding: "How could anyone get on that roof? And why was it not reported?"
In its Saturday edition, the "Washington Post" noted that senior US Secret Service officials had repeatedly rejected requests by Trump's bodyguards for more personnel and equipment for campaign events prior to the assassination attempt.
The U.S. Secret Service, which is responsible for protecting Trump, has rejected those requests, sometimes saying it doesn't have enough resources, the paper said. The office did not respond to Reuters' request for comment after hours.
Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is scheduled to testify before the House Oversight Committee on July 22 at a hearing related to the shooting at a Trump rally in Pennsylvania a week ago.
