United States Vice President Kamala Harris signaled to donors over the weekend that she is ready to replace President Joe Biden as the Democratic nominee for the 2024 election if he opts out, the Wall Street Journal reported Sunday. Biden endorsed Harris earlier today in a letter after announcing he was ending his campaign.

Kamala Harris has vowed to defeat Donald Trump in the presidential election.

“I will do everything in my power to unite the Democratic Party and our nation, to defeat Donald Trump and his far-right “Project 2025”. There are 107 days until election day. Together we will fight and together we will win.” said Harris, quoted by BNT.

She thanked Biden for his extraordinary leadership and decades of service and called his decision to drop out of the race a "selfless and patriotic act.

She also says she is honored to have Biden's support.

Kamala Harris also received the support of the Clinton family, and former President Barack Obama described Biden as "one of the most significant presidents of the United States", but did not explicitly support Harris' nomination.

However, Harris is not expected to comment on the presidential campaign until after Biden addresses the nation.

American media also cited various sources as saying that Democratic Party donors will support Harris, with CNN reporting that the campaign is receiving an “avalanche of money”.
