At least eight people have died in floods and landslides caused by torrential monsoon rains in the Philippines, DPA reported, citing a statement from the Philippine Emergency Management Agency today, as quoted by BTA .
The intensity of the rainfall was intensified by typhoon "Gemi".
Government offices and schools were suspended in the capital Manila due to flooding. Trading on the Philippine Stock Exchange was also suspended.
Typhoon "Gemi" sustained winds of 155 km/h, with occasional gusts of up to 190 km/h, the Philippine Meteorological Service reported.
