Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas will visit Russia from August 12 to 14, the Russian news agency RIA Novosti reported. At the end of June, Kremlin foreign policy advisor Yuriy Ushakov announced the upcoming visit, but without specifying when, stating that the dates had already been agreed, BTA quoted.
RIA Novosti indicates that Abbas planned to visit Russia as early as November last year, but the visit was postponed at the request of the Palestinian side.
Moscow has previously said it wants to help resolve the conflict in the Middle East and peace will not be possible without the creation of a Palestinian state, Reuters notes.
