Five people were wounded in Ukrainian shelling of Kursk region, including three children, the acting governor of the region said on Tuesday. He added that air defense systems destroyed at least 26 drones launched by Ukraine during the night, reports Reuters, as quoted by News.bg.
Several residential buildings were damaged by shelling in the city of Suja in the Kursk region. It is located right next to the border with Ukraine in southwestern Russia, Alexei Smirnov said on the Telegram messaging app.
In a separate post, Smirnov said the overnight attacks followed a series of drone strikes and shelling from Ukraine during the day on Monday, when 41 drones were destroyed and one person was injured.
In the morning there were reports of another 11 downed drones.
Reuters could not independently verify Smirnov's reports.
Both Russia and Kiev rarely reveal the full extent of the damage caused by their attacks, unless civilians are injured or non-strategic infrastructure is damaged.
So far, there has been no immediate comment from Ukraine on the attacks. Kiev has often said it is targeting Russia's military, energy and transportation infrastructure to undermine Russia's overall military efforts. The attacks are also said to be in response to Russia's continued strikes on Ukrainian territory.
