< strong>The United States has completed the withdrawal of its troops from Niger due to the seizure of power in the country by a military junta that is building a partnership with Russia, according to a statement on the Pentagon's official website, cited by BTA.
The defense ministries of the two countries issued a joint statement, in which they noted that the withdrawal of the American contingent from Air Base 201 in Agadez was completed a month earlier than planned.
This trial is noted to have commenced on 19 May following a mutual agreement on the terms of the trial. Coordination between the US and Niger militaries will continue in the coming weeks to ensure a full troop withdrawal as planned, the release added.
The U.S. military is also modernizing the air base to improve defense cooperation with the nation's armed forces and regional counterterrorism efforts.
For the past ten years, US troops have trained the country's armed forces and supported partner-led counterterrorism missions against the "Islamic State” and "Al Qaeda” in the region, is recalled in the distributed text.
