Zaporizhia Nuclear Power Plant (ZAEP) is again on the verge of a blackout - on August 22, shelling damaged the external line through which the facility received power from the Ukrainian energy system for its own needs, reports UNIAN.
The press office of "Energoatom" noted that currently the Zaporizhzhia NPP is connected to the Ukrainian energy system by only one power line – the "Dneprovskaya“ line. If it is damaged, an emergency situation will occur due to the loss of external power to the pumps cooling the reactor cores and the fuel cooling pools in the plant.
"Energoatom“ noted that under "control“ of the Russian troops stationed at the ZANP, "degradation is constantly deepening in all areas of operation”.
"To the recent fire, when, due to negligence or intentional arson, one of the two existing cooling towers of a nuclear power plant completely burned down, an event has now been added with the threat of loss of external power to the plant. The lack of competent, qualified and licensed personnel among the invaders and the transformation of the Zaporizhzhia NPP into a military base makes its smooth operation impossible, the statement said.
The company recalled that since the beginning of the Russian occupation, the Zaporizhzhia NPP has already suffered eight complete power outages and one partial one - with the start of emergency diesel generators and safety systems. Their damage can lead to an accident.
