Slovakia should continue to be supplied with natural gas coming through Ukraine, despite Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky's statements that the gas transit contract with Russia's “Gazprom” it will not be extended, declared Slovak Minister of Economy Denisa Sakova after today's cabinet meeting.
She also said that it could be Azerbaijani gas, Slovak news agency TASR reported, quoted by BTA
„As the Ukrainian Prime Minister stated during the Slovak-Ukrainian negotiations, Ukraine has an interest in gas transit to continue, to use its transit pipes and storage facilities and become an eastern energy hub. That is why we assume that the gas will flow to Slovakia through Ukraine. Naturally, we hope that this will be gas from Azerbaijan”, said Sakova.
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said yesterday at a press conference that Kiev will not extend its agreement with “Gazprom” for the transit of Russian gas through Ukraine after it expires at the end of the year. He explained that after the expiration of the contract, Ukraine will decide together with the European Union on the transit of Russian gas through its territory.
