Russia redirects resources to Pokrovsk after Ukrainian offensive in Kursk - 1

After the beginning of the Kursk operation of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU), "Russian operations are concentrated exclusively in the Pokrovsk region", and Moscow's military "seems to freeze other fronts". This opinion was expressed by Gustav Gressel, an analyst of the war in Ukraine at the European Council on International Relations, reports France 24, quoted by Focus.

"Before the Kursk offensive, the Russians attacked seven fronts in Donbass, and now only Pokrovsk remains, while part of the troops are transferred to Kursk," adds Husein Aliyev from the University of Glasgow.

The Ukrainian Armed Forces began their campaign in the Kursk region at the beginning of August and by the end of the month they controlled over 100 settlements in the region.

At the start of the Kursk offensive, experts interviewed by France 24 agreed that the main objective of the operation was to provoke the redeployment of Russian troops involved in the fighting in the Donbass. Analysts note that although due to the offensive in the Kursk region, the Russian Federation redeployed forces from some sectors of the front in Ukraine, this did not affect the course of the fighting for Pokrovsk.

German military and researcher at the Center for European Policy Analysis Nico Lange believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin is downplaying the importance of the Ukrainian operation in the Kursk region and continues to focus on the eastern part of the country.
