Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has arrived today at Ramstein Air Force Base in Germany to take part in discussions on air defence, arms supplies and the need for "strong" decisions on long-range strikes to bring the establishment of a "just peace" closer, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
After his visit to Germany, Zelensky will travel to Italy, according to his message in "Telegram".
In the base "Ramstein" the Ukrainian president called on his military allies to ignore the "red lines" of Moscow and allow Kiev to use long-range weapons to strike Russian territory. "We need to have these long-range capabilities not only… on the territory of Ukraine, but also on the territory of Russia, so that Moscow is motivated to seek peace," he said at the meeting, which was attended by about 50 countries that supply weapons to Ukraine.
This was Zelensky's first participation in the meeting of defense ministers at the US military base "Ramstein" in West Germany.
At the start of today's meeting, US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin announced that President Joe Biden will approve an additional $250 million in security assistance to Ukraine.
"This will increase capacity to meet Ukraine's changing requirements. And we're going to deliver them at the speed of war," Austin said.
The announcement of the new aid comes at a risky time for Ukrainian forces advancing in Russia's Kursk region, even as Russian forces threaten Pokrovsk in eastern Ukraine, Reuters commented.
