US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken will visit the UK next week for talks for Ukraine and the Middle East, BTA reported. The visit will precede the visit of British Prime Minister Keir Starmer to Washington.
Blinken will be in London on Monday and Tuesday. He is the most senior US representative to go there since the Labor Party won general elections in early July and ended British Conservative rule.
On September 13, Keir Starmer will be received by US President Joe Biden at the White House. This will be Starmer's second visit to the US capital since he was elected prime minister. The first was during the NATO summit in July.
The US and the UK cooperate on a number of international issues, and the Democrats have historically been seen as closer to the Labor Party than the Conservatives.
Nevertheless, the Starmer government hardened its stance against Israel by announcing the suspension of arms export licenses to the country, citing the risk that they would be used in violation of international law in Gaza. The Labor government also abandoned plans launched under the Conservatives to challenge a request by the International Criminal Court (ICC) to issue an international arrest warrant for Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
