North Korean leader Kim Jong-un stressed importance of strengthening naval power forces during a tour of a newly constructed naval base, state media KCTA reported, quoted by BTA.
"Now that we will soon have large warships and submarines that cannot anchor in existing warship berthing facilities, building a naval base to handle the latest large warships becomes an urgent task" ;, Kim said.
During the tour, he emphasized the need to build a naval port capable of handling the weapons systems of warships and presented measures to deploy anti-aircraft and coastal defense systems to protect the port.
During a separate visit to a shipyard, Kim ordered an increase in national investment in shipbuilding projects so that immediate tasks and long-term plans to lay the foundation for the development of the shipbuilding industry move forward as intended.
The KCTA also reported that Kim also visited a defense industry site on Sunday, where he stressed the need to modernize ammunition production.
