The European Commission announced that it is postponing to next Tuesday the presentation of the project with the distribution of the work of the new European Commissioners. This is necessary because of the change in the proposal for EU commissioner from Slovenia, quoted by BTA.
The Slovenian government has announced that the parliament in Ljubljana will give an opinion on the proposed new candidate on Friday and only after that the candidacy will be official, explained a spokesperson of the commission at a press conference. He added that because of this, the EC has proposed to the European Parliament that the meeting of committee chairperson Ursula von der Leyen with the EP leadership, scheduled for tomorrow, be postponed until next week in Strasbourg.
As BTA reported, yesterday Slovenia proposed a female European Commissioner, after the previously nominated man gave up the position. The withdrawn candidate specified that his refusal was related to a conversation with Von der Leyen.
Months ago, Von der Leyen expressed his desire that the number of male and female European Commissioners be similar in the next EC. A spokesman for the commission specified at the beginning of September that the deadline for the nominations for European commissioners by the end of August is aspirational.
