The leader of the right-wing Polish opposition party "Law and Justice" (PiS) Jarosław Kaczynski told several thousand of his supporters who came to a rally in Warsaw that the pro-European government of Prime Minister Donald Tusk is acting against national interests and violates the laws of Poland, the Associated Press reported, quoted by BTA.

Kaczynski called on his sympathizers to show social and political activity and support the PiS candidate in the presidential elections that will take place next year. The opposition party has not yet decided who to nominate for the race for the highest state post.

About 4,000 people took part in today's rally, which gathered in front of the Ministry of Justice, which has become a symbol of the long-standing deep disagreements between Kaczynski and Tusk supporters.

PiS led the country between 2015 and 2023 and undertook changes to the justice system that Brussels criticized as undemocratic. Many Poles grew tired of Kaczynski's aggressive and polarizing language, which dictated government policies from the back seat, AP commented.

PiS fell from power last year after losing parliamentary elections, but continues to wield influence through President Andrzej Duda. He is an ally of the far-right party and has blocked many of the Tusk government's bills. Duda's second and last term expires in August next year.
