Leader of the German Social Democrats Rolf Mützenich proposes the creation of an international contact group, which could include China, India, Turkey and Brazil, writes Tagesschau, quoted by FOCUS.

Rolf Mützenich, leader of the German Social Democratic Party (GSDP) in the Bundestag, proposes the creation of an international contact group for a peaceful resolution of the war between Russia and Ukraine. It may include China, India, Brazil and Turkey. This comes after Ukraine's former ambassador to Germany, Andrii Melnyk, called on Chancellor Olaf Scholz to arrange a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

According to Tagesschau, Melnyk said that German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky share the opinion that now is the time to step up efforts to hold peace talks. In addition, Russia should also participate in the next peace summit.

"This gives other countries the opportunity to become more actively involved in the cessation of hostilities. I think it's time for the Western allies to initiate a contact group to get this process going," commented Rolf Mützenich

According to him, such a group could include China, India, Turkey and Brazil. He believes that in these countries "the conviction is growing that Russia's aggressive war can become a burden".

At the same time, German Foreign Minister Analena Berbock expressed skepticism about peace talks with Putin. According to DPA, at a press conference in Berlin with Indian Foreign Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, she emphasized that every peaceful step offered to Russia at the international level, she "responds with more terror, more suffering and correspondingly more victims.
