< p>German Chancellor Olaf Scholz ruled out the possibility of his country supplying Ukraine with long-range weapons in the future, reports TASS.
Speaking to a crowd in the town of Prenzlau, he reiterated his refusal to provide Ukraine with long-range Taurus missiles. due to concerns that this could lead to a serious escalation.
"I said "no" of that", Scholz pointed out.
According to the chancellor, allowing Ukraine to strike deep into Russia would be a problem and he will not allow that.
"This also applies to other weapons, if we were to deliver them, that could hit at such a great distance," he explained.
"That is why I stand by my position even if other countries decide otherwise," Scholz continued. "I won't allow it because I consider it a problem.
Regarding reports that the United States may lift existing restrictions, he noted that not all assumptions are true. Previously, the White House, after a meeting between US President Joe Biden and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, did not announce that Washington had given the green light for strikes with Western weapons deep into Russian territory.
Earlier, Russian President Vladimir Putin said Ukraine was unable to strike Russian territory without Western help, as it needed satellite intelligence and flight data input for the target. According to the president, the current debate between the NATO countries is not only about the possible use by Kiev of Western long-range weapons, but also about whether the Alliance should become directly involved in the Ukrainian conflict. Putin warned that Moscow will respond to threats that are created for Russia.
