Former Estonian Prime Minister Kaia Kalas will take over the post of High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy from November 1, announced the President of the European Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, during her speech to the European Parliament in Strasbourg, which was broadcast live, as quoted by Focus.
"Kaya Callas, as you already know, will be our High Representative and Vice President. We are in an age of geopolitical confrontations and instability. Our foreign policy and security policy must be defined with an understanding of this reality,”, the German politician stressed.
Von der Leyen offered the representative of France, Stéphane Séjournay, the position of vice-president of the European Commission, responsible for the prosperity and industrial strategy of the EU. Ekaterina Zaharieva will take over the portfolios for startups, research and innovation in the composition of the new European Commission.
