North Korea fired multiple short-range missiles, Yonhap reported, citing BTA, citing information from the South Korean army.
The missiles flew about 400 km, the Joint Command of the Armed Forces announced.
The move further heightens tensions already heightened by the announcement of a North Korean uranium enrichment facility, the agency noted.
Earlier, the Japanese Ministry of Defense announced that North Korea had launched an unidentified missile, possibly a ballistic one, Reuters reported. Yonhap news agency confirmed the launch, citing information from the South Korean armed forces. However, the Joint Command in Seoul did not release details, saying it was analyzing available information.
The Japanese coast guard added that the missile had already fallen, outside Japan's exclusive economic zone. However, the Coast Guard later issued a bulletin for a second missile launch that also fell outside the exclusive economic zone. The interval between launches was about 30 minutes.
On Thursday, Pyongyang said it had conducted tests of a new 600 mm long-range missile system for salvo fire, according to North Korean media, Yonhap reported.
