Palestinians have called The UN General Assembly to vote on a resolution calling for the withdrawal of Israel from the occupied territories within 12 months, reported DPA and France Press, quoted by BTA.

This angered Israel, who described it as a masquerade.

"Please stand on the right side of history, the side of international law, of freedom, of peace. The alternative is what you witness every day on your television screens, and what the Palestinian people endure on their backs," Palestinian UN representative Riyad Mansour said in New York.

The Palestinian resolution aims to increase pressure on Israel to withdraw from the occupied territories through the UN General Assembly. A number of countries have requested the holding of the session of the largest UN body, which began yesterday. The draft resolution aims to force an advisory opinion from the UN's top court on the Middle East conflict, with a vote expected to take place today.

Israeli Ambassador Danny Danon sharply criticized the Palestinian initiative, calling it a "masquerade". After the devastating terrorist attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement "Hamas" on October 7 last year, the international community did not condemn terror in any resolution, he stressed.

"Instead, we gather here to watch the Palestinian circus at the UN - a circus in which evil is righteous, war is peace, killing is justified and terror is applauded," the ambassador added. "How dare you continue this tradition of passing unilateral resolutions against Israel without even considering what the Israeli people have been through?"

The text refers to an advisory opinion of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in The Hague, which declared in July that the occupation of the Palestinian territories is illegal and must be ended as soon as possible. Israel ignored this opinion.

Israel took control of the West Bank, Gaza Strip and East Jerusalem during the Six-Day War in 1967. The Palestinians want these territories to be included in their own state, which should exist alongside Israel and which most countries in the world, including Germany, support to this day.

In 2005, Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip, but continues to control the enclave's borders by land, air and sea.
