10-year-old boy recorded at a Japanese school in Shenzhen, China, died after being stabbed by an assailant yesterday, Japanese broadcaster NHK reported, citing Japan's consul general, Reuters reported, citing BTA.
The attack took place near the school on the anniversary of an incident in 1931 that sparked war between China and Japan, a sensitive date at a time when diplomatic relations between Beijing and Tokyo are in danger of deteriorating.
This is the second such attack near a Japanese school in China in recent months.
The boy was stabbed on his way to school around 8 am. yesterday by the suspected 44-year-old assailant, who was arrested at the scene. It died in the early hours today, NHK reported.
The incident follows a similar incident in June, when a man attacked a bus used by a Japanese school in the eastern city of Suzhou, killing a Chinese national who tried to protect a Japanese mother and her child from the attacker.
