British Prime Minister Keir Starmer will no longer to accept donations to pay for his clothing, Downing Street said today; 10 (the residence of the British Prime Minister), reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
His decision came after widespread media criticism that he had received gifts worth thousands of pounds.
Labour leader Starmer, who came to power in July, came under fire this month after it emerged he had received donations from a wealthy party donor to pay for his everyday clothes and for attending performances, as well as for expensive clothes and services for his wife.
Earlier this week "Sky News” reported that the Prime Minister had declared that he had received over £100,000 in gifts, benefits and hotel accommodation since December 2019, more than any other member of the British Parliament during that period.
"Downing Street” announced that, in addition to Starmer, Deputy Prime Minister Angela Rainer and Chancellor of the Exchequer Rachel Reeves would also not accept future clothing donations.
The prime minister said he had followed the necessary transparency rules by declaring his gifts, but the sum proved damaging to his politics at a time when his government is cutting financial help to pay the energy bills of millions of pensioners.
