Tragedy in Greece: Two bodies found after a forest fire near Corinth - 1

Two bodies were found by Greek police officers near the city of Corinth in the north on the Peloponnese peninsula, where a large forest fire broke out yesterday, reported ANA-MPA, quoted by BTA.

The victims were found in the area of the village of Ano Pizza. An identification procedure is currently underway to determine whether the bodies belong to two men aged 35 and 40 who are missing, the police reported.

The fight against the fire, which has been burning since yesterday near Xylokastro, Corinthia district, has continued throughout the night. The fire is in a difficult-to-access area with dense vegetation, and extinguishing it is difficult due to strong winds with gusts up to eight on the Beaufort scale.

An evacuation order has been sent to the residents of six settlements. There are reports of material damage, but their assessment will become possible after the fire is extinguished.

The fire is being fought by 350 firefighters and 15 teams of specialized services for fighting forest fires, with the help of 110 fire trucks, 5 airplanes and 4 helicopters. Volunteers, water carriers and construction machines of the regional authorities in the Peloponnese, as well as two machines of the General Staff of the National Defense of Greece, are also involved in the extinguishing.
