London mayor fears spike in hate crimes on Island - 1

London mayor Sadiq Khan has warned of a potential increase of hate crime in Britain, sparked by a rise in violence in the Middle East, after a leading British Jewish organization warned of the danger of "revenge attacks" on the island, BNR reported.

The warning from the capital's mayor comes after a series of Israeli airstrikes on targets in Lebanon have killed senior Hezbollah leaders as well as followers of the group, but there are fears dozens of innocent civilians have also been killed.

Sadiq Khan has been urgently funding London-based anti-hate groups for some time. Israel's battles with Iran-backed "Hezbollah" raising fears that the group, designated as a terrorist group by the British government, could launch attacks on Jewish targets abroad as a way of revenge against Israel.

There are also hate crimes against the Muslim community in Britain. "We know that the escalation of conflict in the Middle East often leads to an increase in hate crime here in London. "We have seen an appalling and completely unacceptable rise in hate crime over the last year, particularly in terms of anti-Semitism and Islamophobia, which has had a profound impact on our Jewish and Muslim communities in London," said Sadiq Khan.
