Six migrants were killed Tuesday by Mexican soldiers who opened fire on them in an attempt to capture them, in southern Mexico on its way to the border state of Chiapas, the Mexican Ministry of Defense said in a statement, as cited by AFP and BTA.
Four migrants died on the spot and two others died in hospital, the ministry said, without specifying the nationalities of the victims. According to the Mexican army, they traveled in two vans with a total of 33 migrants.
Another 10 migrants were injured in the incident, according to Reuters. Among the migrants were citizens of Egypt, Nepal, Cuba, India and Pakistan.
