Hungary wants to withdraw from EU asylum rules - 1

Hungary insists on the possibility to withdraw from EU asylum rules in a letter to the European Commission, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

The Minister of European Affairs, János Boca, announced on the social platform "X" that he had sent a letter on this matter to the European Commissioner for Internal Affairs, Ylva Johansson.

He said that if there was an amendment to the EU treaties to allow this, Hungary would like to follow the example of the Netherlands and "initiate the relevant procedures". At the same time, Hungary remains committed to the visa-free Schengen area, Boka added.

"Hungary believes that restoring stronger national control over migration is now the only option to achieve these goals and to effectively stop illegal migration," which "poses a threat to national security," the letter said his to Johansson.

Hungary's minister for European affairs has expressed his intention to withdraw from EU asylum rules in September.
