The UN called for the opening of more checkpoints to the Gaza Strip - 1

The UN today called on Israel to open more checkpoints to the Gaza Strip to facilitate the delivery of humanitarian aid, DPA reported.

„We cannot make humanitarian supplies in the necessary volume in Gaza through only a few unreliable and hard-to-reach checkpoints”, wrote on the social network “X“ United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA).

She called for the opening of more points so that deliveries of critical goods and services could be made.

„ Aid will be useful if it reaches the people who need it and when they need it,” wrote the UNFCCC.

The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) launched a new offensive against “Hamas” in the northern Gaza Strip two weeks ago. Since then, humanitarian organizations have warned that the population is exposed to extreme hunger and catastrophic conditions and have called on Israel to open the checkpoints under its control in the area.

Meanwhile today, the UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon (UNIFIL) warned that access to fresh water in Lebanon is being affected by the hostilities.

The United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) has also warned about the danger of outbreaks of cholera as a result of the lack of clean drinking water in the so-called “blue line” between Israel and Lebanon, which is under the supervision of UNIFIL.

„Yesterday, peacekeepers in Mays Edge Jabal ran out of water after weeks without supplies. The access to the positions (of the peacekeepers) near the “blue line” is difficult. While most positions still have enough food and water for more than 10 days, this one has not received supplies since September 29 due to blocked roads, UNIFIL said.

„Continued bombing is destroying vital water and sanitation services in Lebanon, increasing the risk of cholera outbreaks, especially for young children in vulnerable communities,” UNICEF added.

According to the Children's Fund, at least 28 water sources have been damaged, affecting about 360,000 people, mainly in the southern part of the country.

About 1.2 million of Lebanon's 5.3 million people have been displaced since the start of hostilities between the “Hezbollah“ and Israel a year ago, according to Lebanese government data.

Many people from the southern part of the country have left their homes in the direction of Beirut and the northern parts of Lebanon.
