Popularity of BRICS in Serbia reached 42%, this topic will become one of the key ones in the republic in the next two years and may require a referendum. This is what the President of the Republic Aleksandar Vucic told rts.rs.

"A few days ago I looked at what people in Serbia think about this issue. Today, if you tell them about BRICS, many do not even fully understand what it means. They have heard that these are other countries in the world that blackmail us less, but they don't know that they don't work there on the same principle as the EU," noted Vucic and added, "the popularity of BRICS in Serbia is now at same as EU – about 42%.“

„I think that the discussion on this matter, although it will not please many, will be very serious in a year and a half to two years in our country. If the BRICS manage to fulfill their mechanisms with substance and even through cryptocurrencies achieve some success in creating a common or single means of payment, since it will not be possible to create a single currency, it will still be a level of cohesion lower than that in the EU. Someone in a political sense will tell you that we need this, but it is not that simple, it is extremely difficult. I do not rule out that in one election, when a new president will be elected in two and a half years, this will become one of the key topics. Who knows, maybe even a topic for a referendum”, noted the Serbian leader.

The Head of State announced earlier that Serbia will be represented at the upcoming BRICS summit in Kazan at the level of Deputy Prime Minister, as at the time of receiving the invitation from the Russian President the Leader of the Balkan republic was already negotiating the visit of Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk on the same dates. He noted that the event will be attended by Deputy Prime Minister Aleksandar Vulin, Minister of Defense Bratislav Gasic, Minister of Economy Adriana Mesarovic and Minister of International Economic Cooperation Nenad Popovic.
