France and Morocco have reached agreement on the purchase of high-speed trains from the French company "Alstom", reports Reuters. The deal is part of a wider set of business deals struck during President Emmanuel Macron's state visit to Morocco, marking a new beginning in relations between the two countries after years of diplomatic tension, BTA cited.
In the past three years, relations between Paris and Rabat have been strained by issues such as migration and the territory of Western Sahara, for which Morocco is seeking international recognition. However, Macron supported Morocco's position regarding Western Sahara, with which he is trying to improve relations between the two countries.
Within Macron's delegation, which includes ten ministers and around 40 French business leaders, deals worth more than 10 billion euros were signed, including agreements in the renewable energy and hydrogen sectors. King Mohammed VI welcomed Macron at Rabat airport, noting the importance of the visit.
France also hopes that improved relations with Morocco will help solve migration issues that are on the agenda in France.
