A southern district in the Syrian capital Damascus was struck this afternoon by an Israeli airstrike, DPA reported, citing Syrian media and a monitoring organization, quoted by BTA.
The state news agency SANA reported that, according to initial information, “the Israeli aggression was directed against the surroundings of Saida Zeinab, south of Damascus”.
The head of the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, Rami Abdel Rahman, confirmed the information about the attack and said that an area called “Al Husseinie“ was affected.
The area, near Saida Zeinab, is known for its use by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and the Lebanese Shiite movement “Hezbollah”, which is an ally of Tehran, DPA noted.
According to information from the Syrian Ministry of Defense, the strike caused material damage.
