A member of the far-right party "Alternative for Germany" was arrested during an operation against suspected members of a far-right terrorist organization in Germany, Poland and Austria, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The detainee is believed to be a local politician from the East German state of Saxony, possibly from the youth wing of the “Alternative for Germany”. According to DPA sources, he suffered a fractured jaw during the arrest and is currently in hospital.
Earlier, the German prosecutor's office, quoted by Reuters, announced that seven of the suspects were captured in or around the eastern German cities of Leipzig, Dresden and Meissen, and the eighth – in the Polish town of Zgożelec, near the border with Germany.
Authorities described the group as a paramilitary organization of 15 to 20 members with an ideology marked by racist, anti-Semitic and partly apocalyptic beliefs. According to them, its members share a deep denial of the free and democratic constitutional order in Germany.
