Federal Bureau of investigation (FBI) of the United States reported today false bomb alerts in polling stations in several states, reported Reuters.
Many of these alerts are reported to be linked to Russian email domains.
"There is currently no confirmation that any of these threats are true," the FBI said in a statement.
At least two polling stations in the state of Georgia were briefly evacuated today due to false bomb alerts. The representatives of the authorities in the state, which are responsible for producing the elections, said that Russian agents were behind the signals.
The two evacuated precincts reopened about 30 minutes later, with Fulton County, where the precincts are located, saying it would seek court approval to extend Election Day past 7 p.m. local time.
Georgia Republican Secretary of State Brad Raffensperger said the false bomb alerts were due to Russian interference in the election.
"Looks like they're getting ready for mischief. They don't want us to produce smooth, fair and accurate elections. If they make us fight each other, that's a win for them," Raffensperger told reporters.
Accusations against Russia of meddling in the US presidential election are "malicious slander," said the Russian Embassy in Washington, quoted by Reuters.
"All insinuations about "Russian machinations" are a malicious slander concocted for use in domestic political struggles in the US," the statement quoted by Russian media said.
A court in the state of Pennsylvania approved today a request to extend the election day in Cambria County because of a problem with the voting machines, France Press reported.
Polling stations in the county will be open until 22:00 local time. In 2020, nearly 70% of voters in Cumbria voted for Donald Trump, notes AFP.
Pennsylvania is one of seven key states that will decide the outcome of the election.
