Donald Trump has scored his first major victory in the race for the White House, winning the key state of North Carolina, NBC and ABC television reported, quoted by BTA.
The Republican won the state in 2016 and 2020, but the race was hotly contested this year, with challenger Kamala Harris making a significant campaign effort there.
With his victory in this eastern US state, the ex-president adds 16 additional votes in the Electoral College.
Results are awaited from six other states that could affect the final election result, while states without tension have already declared their results.
Currently, Donald Trump leads with 227 electoral votes to 172 for Kamala Harris.
