Turkey ranks eighth in the world and third in NATO in the list for 2024 of the most powerful armies, published by the US-based publication "Global Firepower" (Global Firepower), BTA reported.
"The "Power Index" (a numerical assessment representing the military power of a country, where a lower value indicates a stronger army) of Turkey in 2024 was calculated at 0.1697, and its military spending was 40 billion dollars. This ranks it eighth among countries worldwide and third in NATO in terms of military strength. In NATO, it is surpassed only by the United States and the United Kingdom, which are first and sixth in the global ranking, respectively.
The United States leads with a power index of 0.0699 and defense spending of $831 billion, followed by Russia with an index of 0.0702 and spending of $109 billion, and China with an index of 0.0706 and spending worth $227 billion. Next in line are India (index of 0.1023 and spending of $74 billion), South Korea (index of 0.1416 and spending of $44.7 billion), the United Kingdom (index of 0.1443 and spending of $62.8 billion), and Japan (index of 0.1601 and spending of $53 billion). The top ten of the strongest armies in the world are completed by Turkey, Pakistan and Italy.
Bulgaria is in 62nd place in the ranking of a total of 145 countries with a power index of 1.0132. Among the Balkan countries, in addition to Turkey, Greece (in 32nd place), Romania (47th) and Serbia (56th) also occupy higher positions. However, in lower positions than Bulgaria are Croatia (66th place), Albania (90th), Slovenia (91th), the Republic of North Macedonia (110th), Bosnia and Herzegovina (116th), Montenegro (129th) and Kosovo (135th).
Preparing the ranking and determining the assessment of each country is based on more than 60 separate factors such as technological base, number of military personnel, financial condition, logistics, mobility and geographical location of the countries.
