Russian President Vladimir Putin today rebuked the United States for its desire to inflict a strategic defeat on Russia in Ukraine and said there was a struggle to shape a new world order amid the collapse of the one that was was created by the West after the Cold War era, reported Reuters, quoted by BTA.
"We have reached a dangerous border," the head of state said at a plenary session of the forum "Discussion Club "Valdai" in the Russian Black Sea city of Sochi, a day after the announcement of Donald Trump's victory in the US presidential election and on the day that marks the 107th anniversary of the October Revolution.
"The West's calls for a strategic defeat of Russia — the country with the largest arsenal of nuclear weapons — demonstrate the excessive adventurism of Western politicians," Putin said. The West has been haughtily trying to portray Russia as a collapsed colossus since the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991, the Russian president said, calling the NATO alliance in which the US plays a leading role a "clear anachronism".
According to Putin, the US needs this "anachronism" to dominate his sphere of influence. According to the Russian president, the NATO alliance is subject to the "oppression of the big brother", referring to the USA.
"The previous structure of the world is inevitably disappearing, we can even say that it no longer exists, and a serious, implacable struggle is unfolding for the formation of a new structure. The world needs Russia, and no decisions by the supposed authorities in Washington or Brussels can change that," Putin pointed out, explaining that the basis of a just world order is the BRICS organization.
According to the opinion of the Kremlin leader, the BRICS countries, whose founders are Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, are "an example of constructive cooperation".
Putin added that attempts to pressure Russia are pointless, but Moscow is always ready to negotiate "taking into account all mutual legitimate interests".
