At least 20 people were killed and more than 30 injured in a bomb blast at a railway station in Pakistan today, DPA reported, citing local authorities, local police and local media. The number of victims is expected to rise, as there was a huge amount of people at the station when the explosion occurred, BTA reports.
The attack took place at the railway station in the southwestern city of Quetta, the administrative center of Balochistan province, just as the express train was leaving for Peshawar, the capital of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (formerly North-West Frontier Province). p>
The Balochistan Liberation Army, an ethnic Baloch group fighting for the province's independence from Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. Last week, the same group killed two Chinese engineers in Karachi and 20 miners in two separate attacks.
Pakistan is facing a growing number of extremist attacks in the northwest and separatist attacks in the south, Reuters notes.
