The opposition in Abkhazia blocked the republic highway, two bridges were blocked by tractors, representatives of the security services of the republic announced at an emergency meeting of the Security Council , led by President Aslan Bzhania, reported RIA Novosti.
A little earlier, the chief prosecutor of Abkhazia, Adgur Agrba, announced that on Monday, after an extraordinary session of the parliament, where a project for the construction of multifunctional complexes was considered, a group of people in the courtyard of the parliament attacked a deputy. Four attackers have been detained. Later, their relatives and representatives of the opposition tried to enter the building of the State Guard with a request for the release of the detainees.
As reported on the Apsnypress agency's Telegram channel, the President of Abkhazia Aslan Bzhaniya has called an emergency meeting of the Security Council. Representatives of the security forces announced that oppositionists had gathered near the building of the Ministry of the Interior and State Security. They started fighting and tried to break down the gate.
“At the moment, some are in the square, others are blocking the bridge - two bridges are blocked by tractors,” said the head of the Abkhaz Ministry of Internal Affairs, Robert Keut.
The head of the State Security, Dmitry Kuchuberia, called what happened outside the department's doors “mass disturbances”. According to him, there are cases of use of force against employees of the department.
On Monday, the Parliament of Abkhazia adopted a draft for the construction of multifunctional complexes, which directly affects the implementation of the agreement with Moscow on the investment activity of Russian legal entities in the republic.
The agreement was signed on October 30 and must be ratified by the Abkhaz parliament.
Deputies, however, decided before that to adopt a law that would regulate the construction of multifunctional complexes, which are provided for in the investment agreement.
The question of the ratification of the agreement “On the investment activity of Russian legal entities in the Republic of Abkhazia“ is expected to be considered by the Parliament of Abkhazia on November 15.
Abkhazia is a partially recognized country in the South Caucasus with the capital city of Sukhumi. Its population is about a quarter of a million inhabitants.
