Former British Prime Minister Boris Johnson said in an interview with GB News that Britain may have to send troops to Ukraine if Donald Trump cuts funding to the country if he takes office as US president. Johnson stressed that support for Ukraine is crucial to prevent a potential threat from Russia to other European countries, as quoted by Focus.
According to Johnson, “the collapse of Ukraine” would lead to “an even greater threat at the borders of Europe and the continent as a whole, where democracies clash with Russia”. He highlighted the particular risk for the Baltic states and Georgia, noting that a possible defeat of Ukraine would have serious consequences for the security of all of Europe.
Johnson added that the defeat of Ukraine would have implications not only for Europe, but also for security in the Pacific region and the South China Sea. He stressed that in such a case Britain's defense spending would rise significantly, exceeding current support for Ukraine.
„There are many different voices in Donald Trump's team, and there is a front in the Republican Party that takes the wrong position regarding Ukraine,” added Johnson, warning of the risk of weakening international support for Kiev.
