US President Joe Biden will receive his successor Donald Trump, who won last week's presidential election, in the White House today, reports DPA, quoted by BTA.
The meeting in the Oval Office, according to the presented schedule, should start at 11:00 (18:00 Bulgarian time).
Before that, Trump plans to meet with fellow Republicans in the US Congress. In the elections on November 5, the conservative party established control of the Senate and will probably retain its majority in the House of Representatives.
Biden, who is a Democrat, had a phone conversation with Trump soon after the election to congratulate him on his victory and invite him to the White House, DPA notes.
Democrats define Trump as a threat to democracy, but Biden will still follow the protocol for the peaceful transfer of power in the United States.
Trump deviated from tradition in 2020. The Republican, who has not yet conceded his defeat in the then-election against Joe Biden, not only did not invite Biden to the White House, but also skipped his inauguration ceremony.
Today's meeting will be one of the few between Biden and Trump. They last faced each other during televised debates at the end of June, shortly before Biden withdrew from the presidential race, according to DPA.
On 9/11, both attended a memorial event in New York, but did not speak at length.
