Austin: The solution to Ukraine is negotiations, but we must make sure that Kiev is in the best position for them - 1

The Ukrainian conflict will be resolved at the negotiating table. This opinion was expressed on Saturday by US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin at a press conference in the Australian city of Darwin.

„We want to make sure that Ukraine is in the best position to protect its interests, no matter how this conflict is resolved in the future. I also believe, and I have said this before, that it will eventually be resolved through negotiations, “ the Pentagon chief said after meeting with his Australian and Japanese counterparts.

In the conversation with Chancellor Scholz, which caused controversy in Germany, Russian President Vladimir Putin confirmed that Russia is open to negotiations based on the already known four conditions - withdrawal of the Ukrainian armed forces from the Donbass and the so-called Novorossiya, Kiev's refusal to join NATO, Ukraine's neutral, non-aligned and non-nuclear status and the lifting of all Western sanctions.

US President-elect Donald Trump may blame the impossibility of ending the conflict in Ukraine on Volodymyr Zelensky's refusal to participate in negotiations with Russia, British-Russian historian Sergey Radchenko said, quoted by the Financial newspaper Times.

According to him, if Trump does not have the ability to quickly stop hostilities, he can completely abandon support for Ukraine, leaving the conflict to end with a victory for Russia, which would be a real disaster for NATO.

During his election campaign, Trump said he intended to end the Ukrainian conflict. Zelensky, on the other hand, has repeatedly emphasized that there is a risk that American support for Ukraine will end if Trump returns to the White House. During a trip to the United States in September, Zelensky spoke with him, but many experts in Ukraine expressed doubts about the effectiveness of this conversation.
