First diplomat of the European Union Josep Borrell confirmed that it will propose to member states to end their political dialogue with Israel, citing the country's behavior in the war in the Gaza Strip, Reuters reported, as quoted by Focus.
„Many people have tried to stop the war in Gaza... it has not happened yet. And I see no hope of that happening. That's why we have to put pressure on the Israeli government and also, obviously, on Hamas”, Borrell told journalists ahead of an EU meeting.
Borrell last week proposed that the European Union suspend its political dialogue with Israel, citing possible human rights abuses in the Gaza war, four diplomats and a document seen by *Reuters* said.
However, the proposal met with resistance. Dutch Foreign Minister Caspar Veldkamp emphasized that, according to the Netherlands, the EU should continue to maintain dialogue with Israel.
„According to the Netherlands, this door should remain open”, Veldkamp said.
