Olaf Scholz Refused to Provide Ukraine with Taurus Missiles - 1

During the G20 Summit in Brazil, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz once again refused to provide Ukraine with long-range "Taurus" missiles, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.

Scholz remains unwavering in his position, despite Kiev's repeated demands for German-made missiles.

The latest questions about "Taurus" were placed after recent media reports that the United States had allowed Ukraine to use weapons it had supplied to strike targets in Russia.

"I have very clear reasons why I do not consider the delivery of Taurus cruise missiles (...) to be correct", said Scholz. According to the German Chancellor, this would require German servicemen to participate in controlling the missile targets. "This is something I cannot and do not want to answer for," he stressed.

US media reports claim that US President Joe Biden has given Kiev permission to use US-supplied ATACMS missiles, which have a range of up to 300 km, to strike military targets in the Kursk region.

The weapons are likely to be used initially against Russian and North Korean troops in support of Ukrainian forces occupying territory in western Russia's Kursk region.

Ukraine captured the area in a surprise attack in August, but a counteroffensive by Moscow is now looming, aiming to push out Ukrainian troops, DPA recalls.
