Clashes erupt in Serbian parliament, reports "Reuters" after opposition MPs held up banners blaming the ruling coalition for the collapse of the roof of a train station in Novi Sad, in which 15 people died, News.bg reports
Radomir Lazovic from the opposition Green-Left Front placed on the podium a photo of a red hand with the inscription "you have blood on your hands" directed at the rulers. The Minister of Health, Zatibor Loncar, approached him and started scolding him, which caused clashes among the MPs. Some of them held up photos of President Aleksandar Vucic with red hands and the words "No one should be blamed". The serious incident at the recently renovated train station in Novi Sad caused political tension and became a major issue for the opposition, which accuses the government of corruption and nepotism. 12 people, including a former minister, were arrested in connection with the incident, but the opposition said the authorities waited too long to act. Opposition MPs demanded a debate on the incident, even though parliament was scheduled to debate the 2025 budget. They also submitted a vote of no confidence against the government, despite the statement of the Speaker of the Parliament, Ana Brnabic, that it will not be considered.
Political tensions are rising in Serbia, with the opposition accusing the ruling coalition of inefficiency and nepotism. The country remains at the center of international interest because of its political ties with Russia and its quest for membership in the European Union.
