Israeli airstrikes along the border between Lebanon and Syria, carried out last night, resulted in the death of six people, Reuters reported, citing the Syrian state news agency. Among the victims are four civilians and two Syrian military personnel, BTA reports.
The strikes are the first in this region within the current conflict in the Middle East, noted Lebanese Transport Minister Ali Hamieh. They were inflicted just hours before US President Joe Biden announced the entry into force of a cease-fire agreement between Israel and the Lebanese Shiite group "Hezbollah". The truce comes into effect at 2:00 a.m. local time.
The Syrian state agency also reported 12 wounded, including children and women. Among the injured are employees of the Red Crescent health organization in Syria.
The strikes caused significant damage to ambulances and health posts in the area. Lebanese Minister Hamieh said that immediately after the attack, a number of roads in the region were closed.
